Taryne Cantillo was part
of three event wins

Maggie Vaughan won both the
500 free and 1,000 free

CONWAY, Ark. -- The Centenary women’s swim team won the seven-team, 39th Annual Hendrix Classic Friday at Grove Pool, on the campus of Hendrix College, in Conway, Ark. The Ladies impressively won the meet by a margin of 107 points.

Winning 10 of 11 events, Centenary was led by sophomore Taryne Cantillo (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown) and freshman Maggie Vaughan (Clinton, Miss./Clinton) in Friday’s meet, in which the Ladies compiled 309 points.

For the second-straight meet, Cantillo was part of three event wins, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:59.25, recording a time of 2:11.80 to win the 200 fly. In addition to the individual wins, Cantillo was part of 400 medley relay, which won the event with a time of 4:10.15. Joining Cantillo on the 400 medley relay team was freshmen Rebecca Loy (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) and Leslie Wyatt (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek), along with junior Melanie Zimmerman (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock).

Vaughan captured wins in the 1,000 free and 500 free, remaining undefeated in both events this season. Holding the Centenary record in both events, Vaughan won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:34.42, winning the 500 free with a time of 5:12.21.

Also winning individual events for the Ladies was sophomore Leslie Clampitt (Dallas/Highland Park) and freshman Natalie Nazzal (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), along with Loy and Wyatt.

Clampitt took the 50 free, touching the wall with a time of 25.14. In the next event following Clampitt’s win, Wyatt won the 200 individual medley, recording a time of 2:15.31. Finishing right behind Wyatt in the 200 IM and taking second place, sophomore Nicole Turner (Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall) set a new career-low in the event with a time of 2:20.49.

Nazzal and Zimmerman took the top two spots in the 100 free, with Nazzal edging out Zimmerman with a time of 54.58.

In the 200 breaststroke, Loy, Ladies record-holder in the event, had a time of 2:31.80 for the win. Finishing second in the 200 breaststroke was Wyatt, recording a time of 2:34.35.

Winning the 400 free relay was Nazzal, Clampitt, sophomore Alana Gregory (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) and Zimmerman, concluding a successful meet with a time of 3:42.55.

Centenary returns to action Saturday, competing in the Hendrix Relays at Grove Pool.
