John Hogan finished
tied for 24th Tuesday

MANY, La. -- The Centenary men’s golf team concluded the Fall portion of the 2006-07 season, finishing 12th in the Louisiana-Lafayette Battle on the Bend. Played at Cypress Bend, in Many, La., the Gents shot a final round Tuesday of 319.

After rain forced the cancellation of Monday’s second round at the Battle on the Bend, teams resumed action Tuesday morning, playing the par 72, 6,707-yard course at Cypress Bend.

Leading the way for the Gents in this week’s 36-hole tournament was sophomore John Hogan (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), who finished in a tie for 24th. Hogan shot a final round of 77 for a total of 151 (74-77), registering the low round for Centenary in the tournament with his 74 in Sunday’s first round.

Senior David Viviano (Lafayette, La./Thomas More) shot back-to-back rounds of 77 (154) in the tournament, finishing tied for 37th. Behind Viviano, freshman Mark Weeber (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward) shot 84 Tuesday, finishing in 59th place with a two-round total of 165 (81-84).

Freshman Tyler Williams (Shreveport/C.E. Byrd) shot 87-81 (168) for 61st place, while sophomore Zach Bruhnke (Keithville, La./Huntington) finished 63rd with rounds of 88-85 (173).

Sam Houston State took the tournament team title with a score 585 (302-283). With the tournament limited to two rounds, the Bearkats moved from fourth place to first with a final round of 283, led by medalist Fergal Rafferty. Shooting a 3-under 69 in Tuesday’s final round, Rafferty finished with a tournament score of 2-under 142, two strokes ahead of Jeremey Jeansonne (144) of McNeese State.
