SHREVEPORT—Centenary softball coach Mark Montgomery has announced the signings of Caitlin Cavarra and Bonnie Matak to National Letters of Intent to play for the Ladies in the 2007-08 school year. Both players are All-District performers at their respective high schools and look to repeat their success during their upcoming senior seasons.

Cavarra is a right-handed 5’5” utility player from Brentwood, Tenn. She will play mostly second base and outfield for the Ladies after starring at Brentwood High School where she was named first team All-District. She batted .349 and posted an on-base percentage of .392 for the Tennessee Edge, a travel team coached by Rone Phelps.

“Caitlin is a tremendous contact hitter and can play a variety of defensive positions,” said Montgomery of his early signee. “She will provide depth in a number of areas as she continues to develop as a player.”

Matak, a 5’3” outfielder from Richmond, Texas, throws right and bats left. She was a first team All-District and an All-Area selection in both her sophomore and junior seasons at Lamar Consolidated High School. The speedy slap hitter plays her travel ball for the Missouri City Magic.

“Bonnie has exceptional speed and is a great outfielder,” said Montgomery. “Her ability to both slap and hit with power make her a valuable asset to any lineup.”

Cavarra and Matak will join a Centenary team that has battled for the Mid-Continent Conference Championship each season since joining the league in 2003. The Ladies have been Mid-Con Tournament Champions twice and have advanced to the NCAA College World Series Tournament on both occasions.
