for the 2007-08 season

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Head coach Butch Jordan and the Centenary women’s swimming team announce the signing of two student-athletes for the 2007-08 season. Natalie Holcomb and Lauren Kloepfer both signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.

A native of Whitehouse, Texas, Holcomb will compete in both swimming and cross country while at Centenary. A multi-sport athlete at Whitehouse High School, Holcomb specializes in both the 500 and 200 freestyle events. A six-time qualifier for the Texas High School State Meet, Holcomb has been the district and regional champion in the 500 and 200 free for the past three seasons.

The Texas High School 4A State Champion in the 200 free in her sophomore season, Holcomb earned state runner-up in the 200 and 500 free last season. She has been a first-team all-state selection all three years of high school.

"Natalie will add depth to our distance freestyle events. She and Maggie Vaughan will be a hard duo for any of our competitors to match and I am looking forward to training Natalie next year," Jordan said of Holcomb. "She will have the Mid-Con taking notice from the start next year. Her running workouts will be a great compliment to her water training."

Kloepfer will join the Ladies from Mandeville, La. Specializing in the fly, individual medley, freestyle and backstroke, Kloepfer is a member of the Hurricane Swim Club and is coached by Ed Kelly.

She earned runner up honors in the 200 backstroke at the Louisiana State Championships in the summer of 2006.

"Lauren has a wide range of abilities. She is the kind of athlete that we will be able to move around into different events over the course of the season," Jordan said. "She will definitely have an impact in her freshman season. We are very excited to have her in our lineup for next year."

Both student-athletes join a very young, yet very talented Ladies squad, dominated by athletes just in their freshman or sophomore season.

Centenary returns to competition Dec. 19, traveling to St. Louis University.
