SHREVEPORT—The Centenary men’s basketball team will put its three-game home unbeaten streak on the line Saturday when it hosts the SMU Mustangs of Conference USA at 3 p.m. The Gents will also be sponsoring a food drive at the gates which will allow any student of eighth grade or younger to gain free admittance to the game with a donation of a canned good or other non-perishable item.

Centenary (4-5) has seen sophomore guard Tyrone Hamilton flourish of late as he is averaging 20.2 points over his last four games. In the Gents 98-64 loss to Texas Tech last Saturday, the floor leader poured in 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.

SMU (7-1) has won five consecutive home games to race out to its best start in recent history. The Mustangs defeated Dayton, Louisiana-Monroe, Paul Quinn, Texas College, and Prairie View A&M during the streak, but lost its only road contest this season at Florida State. Ike Ofoegbu leads SMU with a scoring average of 15.4 ppg.

The Gents have won all three of their home games this season by an average margin of almost 10 points. Texas State, UALR, and Nicholls State have all tried their hand at Centenary in the Gold Dome this year and have come up short.

SMU holds the all-time series advantage over Centenary by the count of 10-2. The two teams last met during the 2005-06 season where the Mustangs upended the Gents 85-67 in Dallas.

The game can be heard locally over the radio on KSCL 91.3 FM with the pre-game show hosted by Doug Greenwald beginning at 2:45 p.m. (CST). Fans outside of the Shreveport-Bossier area can follow the action on the internet at SportsJuice.com.

In addition, the Centenary Alumni Association will be sponsoring a pre-game party at Pieworks across from the Gold Dome at 1 p.m. All alumni are invited to attend as well as their families for food and fun before heading inside to see the Gents take on the Mustangs.
