two event wins Tuesday

ST. LOUIS -- Competing in its first meet in more than a month, the Centenary women’s swim team defeated IUPUI and Valparaiso, falling to host St. Louis in Tuesday’s quad meet.

Paced by five event wins, the Ladies defeated IUPUI, 137-70, while also defeating Valparaiso, 133-79. Against host St. Louis, Centenary fell, 125-90, although the overall performance of the Ladies should be complimented.

Freshman Maggie Vaughan (Clinton, Miss.) took home event wins in both the 500 free and 1,000 free, remaining undefeated in both events this season. Vaughan captured the 500 free with a time of 5:08.66, while winning the 1,000 free with a time of 10:24.62. She is proving to be one of the elite swimmers in the Mid-Con, continuing to improve throughout the season.

Part of two event wins, sophomore Leslie Clampitt (Dallas) won the 50 free with a time of 24.99, helping the Ladies capture first place in the 400 free relay. Clampitt was joined by sophomore Alana Gregory (Flower Mound, Texas), freshman Natalie Nazzal (Kingwood, Texas) and junior Melanie Zimmerman (Round Rock, Texas) in the 400 free relay, recording a time of 3:40.22.

In the 100 free, the Ladies took home the top two spots, with Nazzal capturing first with a time of 55.52. Gregory finished in second behind Nazzal, touching the wall with a time of 55.55.

Capturing two top-three finishes, sophomore Taryne Cantillo (Georgetown, Texas) finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.71, also finishing third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:17.01.
