Vaughan Earns Second Mid-Con Swimmer of the Week Honors

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Freshman Maggie Vaughan continues a breakout rookie campaign with the Centenary women’s swim team as she was named Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season.

Vaughan, a native of Clinton, Miss., set three new school records en route to four event wins in the Ladies’ two meets at St. Louis University Tuesday and Wednesday.

In this week’s two meets against IUPUI, Valparaiso and host St. Louis, she broke her own school records in the 500 free and 1,000 free with times of 5:06.51 and 10:24.62, respectively. Vaughan also broke the Centenary record in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.76, standing amongst the top five times in the Mid-Con in the 200, 500 and 1,000 free.

With her four event wins, she helped the Ladies capture a sweep over IUPUI and Valparaiso in this week’s two meets.

Her nomination marks the third time this season a Centenary men’s and women’s swimmer has been named Mid-Con Swimmer of the Week.

Vaughan and Centenary take a break from competition to celebrate the holiday season, next facing Delta State Jan. 13 at the Centenary Fitness Center.
