McCann returns 12 letterwinners
from last season's team

SHREVEPORT, La. -- With the start of the Spring semester at Centenary underway, the Gents baseball team reported to Shehee Stadium Tuesday in preparation of the start of the 2007 season.

Preparing for its ninth season under the direction of head coach Ed McCann, Centenary took the field for the team’s first practice of the Spring season, gearing up for next month’s season-opening series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Feb. 3-4.

"We’re trying to try to get everyone back to the high level of expectations prior to Christmas break," McCann said. "Hopefully we can hone our skills and our fundamentals."

The Gents have made the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament for the past three seasons, returning 12 letterwinners from last season’s team that finished with a 13-11 conference record.

Centenary brings back a team which finished second in the conference with a team batting average of .303, standing third in team pitching with a team ERA of 5.47.

Among the returnees for Centenary is all-conference selection Justin Darr (The Woodlands, Texas), who hit .339 last season with 37 RBI and 25 runs scored. Darr earned first team All-Mid Con last season, finishing ninth in the conference in hitting.

In the first month of the season, the Gents play 13-of-15 games at Shehee Stadium.
