CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.—The Centenary Ladies gymnastics team opened its 2007 season on the road by earning a split at Southeast Missouri State University on Saturday evening. The Ladies team score of 188.275 was enough to defeat Illinois-Chicago (187.900), but came up short of the host SEMO team that won the event with a score of 193.700.

While SEMO took all of the team event titles, Centenary (1-1) took second on the vault (47.175), bars (46.400), and floor exercise (47.625) finishing in third only on the balance beam (47.075).

Individually, Kristina Menne placed third in the all-around with a combined score of 37.675 with her best effort being a 9.625 on the floor for ninth place. Jessie Angus recorded a 9.650 on the bars to take home third place in the event while Courtney Hawkins’ 9.600 was good enough for sixth place on the vault.

Other Ladies to finish in the top 10 in their respective events were Meredith Smith (9th – vault, 9.500), Hawkins (8th – bars, 9.500), Menne (10th – bars, 9.425), Angus (6th – beam, 9.650), and Julia Cornelius (6th – beam, 9.650).

SEMO’s Rikara Turner took home the all-around honors with a score of 38.525. Sandra Blake from SEMO won the vault with a 9.700 and the beam with a 9.850 while Maureen Grimaldi, also from SEMO, won the bars at 9.725. Annie Kachman broke up the sweep attempt by Southeast Missouri State by winning the floor exercise with a 9.850 on behalf of Illinois-Chicago.
