Mid-Con Co-Leader Oral Roberts to Face Gents Saturday
Friday, January 19, 2007

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary men’s basketball team welcomes Mid-Con frontrunner and preseason favorite Oral Roberts to the Gold Dome at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are led by the reigning Player of the Year in forward Caleb Green, who was also the preseason favorite to win the award again this season.

Centenary (7-12, 1-3 Mid-Con) has slowed in conference play after suffering through some injuries. Sophomore guard Bryan Baumann (9.3 ppg) will miss his sixth consecutive game on Saturday as a result of an illness and it is likely senior guard/forward Alexander Starr (12.2 ppg) will miss the match-up with the Golden Eagles after a bout of food poisoning.

Starting with Oral Roberts, the Gents begin a three-game homestand through perhaps the toughest part of their Mid-Con schedule. ORU (12-7) is 4-0 in league play and Centenary will battle IUPUI (8-9, 2-2 Mid-Con) on Thursday, the preseason pick to finish second. Oakland, who is also undefeated at 4-0, closes out the stretch of games in the Gold Dome next Saturday.

Sophomore Tyrone Hamilton has scored 24 points in each of Centenary’s last two games and now leads the Mid-Con in scoring average within conference play at 19.8 ppg. Senior Larry Logan is second in the conference with 7.5 rpg.

Oral Roberts has won six games in row behind Caleb Green’s 19.7 ppg and 9.5 rebounds per contest. Ken Tutt is also scoring in double figures at 16.7 ppg.

The game can be heard locally in the Shreveport-Bossier area on the radio at KSCL 91.3 FM and over the internet at www.SportsJuice.com.
