Sheehan earned a 4-1 win
over Kansas State Sunday

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary junior Jeremy Sheehan was named Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday.

Sheehan, a native of Bonner Springs, Kan., pitched seven innings to lead Centenary to a 4-1 win over Kansas State Sunday in the 2007 Gents Baseball Classic. In his seven innings of work, Sheehan walked just one batter, striking out three and allowing one run. The junior righty didn’t allow a run over the first six innings of the game, not allowing a runner past second in the first six innings.

This season, Sheehan has a 3.93 ERA, tied for the team lead with 10 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings. He has limited opponents to a .333 batting average.

With the win over the Wildcats, Sheehan brought his record to 2-1 on the season.

Centenary went 2-2 in the Gents Baseball Classic, with wins over Penn State and Kansas State.

Monday’s announcement of Sheehan earning Mid-Con Pitcher of the Week honors marked the second consecutive week a Centenary player has earned conference weekly accolades. Gents junior outfielder Calvin Sanchez (Santa Cruz, Calif.) earned Mid-Con Player of the Week last week after helping Centenary capture a three-game sweep of Jackson State.

Sheehan and the Gents (5-6) travel to Nacogdoches, Texas Tuesday afternoon to face Stephen F. Austin. First pitch between Centenary and the Lumberjacks is scheduled for 2 p.m.
