David Viviano shot a round
of 1-under 71 Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior David Viviano led the Centenary men’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at the 2007 BSC Spring Shootout, played at the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course, on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Monday and Tuesday. The Gents shot 924 over the three rounds of the tournament.

Viviano, a native of Lafayette, La., finished tied for 29th in the tournament, which featured a field of over 80 players. The senior shot the lone round under par for the Gents in the tournament, carding a 1-under 71 in Tuesday’s final round. For the tournament, Viviano had a three-round total of (79-78-71), standing second amongst all players in pars in the tournament (38).

Standing tied for 18th following Monday’s two rounds, freshman Mark Weeber (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a final round score of 79 to slip back 11 spots to finish in 29th place. Weeber finished with a tournament score of 230 (74-77-79). Also shooting a 79 in the final round, freshman Tyler Williams (Shreveport) finished tied for 44th in the tournament. Williams excelled on par 5 holes over the two days, shooting 3-under over 54 hole to stand third in par-5 scoring in the tournament.

Freshman Nick Faitz (North Little Rock, Ark.) improved by two strokes over his second-round score, shooting an 82 in the final round for a three-round score of 240, good for 56th place. Sophomore John Hogan (Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot 88 in the final round for a tournament score of 247.

The team competition was won by Tennessee Tech with a team score of 871 (292-291-288). Standing in second place following Monday’s first and second rounds, Tennessee Tech defeated tournament hosts Birmingham-Southern by four strokes (875). Birmingham-Southern had led the team competition with a two-round score of 580.

In total, four of the five Tennessee Tech golfers finished in the top 10 in the tournament.

J.T. Clendenin of Birmingham-Southern won the individual competition with a score of 207, shooting a 2-under 70 in the final round. For the three rounds, Clendenin shot 66-71-70.

Finishing eighth in a 16 team field, the Gents travel to the Grover Page Classic next week, played at the Jackson Country Club, in Jackson, Tenn.
