SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary pulled off a rare feat Wednesday, sweeping both the men’s and women’s Golfer of the Week honors in the Mid-Continent Conference. Sophomore Jessica Garza was named on the women’s side, with senior David Viviano on the men’s side.

Leading the Centenary women’s golf team to its first tournament win of the 2006-07 season, Garza finished in first place at this week’s Ladies Spring Classic at the Shreveport Country Club. En route to earning her third Mid-Con Golf of the Week honors this year, Garza shot 157 (81-76) to win the tournament by three strokes.

Shooting a 76 in the final round Tuesday, the best round of any player at the tournament, Garza birdied the final two holes to play the final five holes of the tournament at 5-under. The McKinney, Texas, native excelled at "crunch time", leading all players in scoring on par 5 holes and par 4 holes at the tournament. The 76 in the final round matched her season-best score this year.

The tournament win was Garza’s second of her collegiate career. She leads all Centenary players with a scoring average of 80.8.

In addition to Garza’s success on the course, she helped the Ladies, serving as tournament hosts, win the Spring Classic by 19 strokes Tuesday.

In a tournament field that featured more than 80 players, Viviano finished tied for 21st in helping the Gents to an eighth-place finish. From Lafayette, La., Viviano shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to jump from 49th position to 21st on the final day. The senior finished with a tournament score of 228 (79-78-71), finishing tied for third amongst all players in pars (38) in the tournament.

With his individual play, the senior helped the Gents move up two spots from 10th place after two rounds of the BSC Spring Shootout, finishing with a team score of 924 (306-307-311).

This season, Viviano leads the Gents with a scoring average of 77.3.

Viviano and the Gents return to action Sunday, traveling to Jackson, Tenn. for the Grover Page Classic at the Jackson Country Club.

Garza and the Ladies visit Mobile, Ala. for the 2007 South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational, played at the Azalea City Golf Club.
