Tracy Williams leads Centenary
with an 80.4 scoring average

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary women’s golf team returns to action Monday, traveling to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the Troy University Women’s Intercollegiate, played at the Arrowhead Country Club Monday and Tuesday.

This week’s Troy Women’s Intercollegiate will be a two-day, 36-hole tournament, with single rounds Monday and Tuesday.

Sophomore Tracy Williams (Van Alstyne, Texas/Van Alstyne) leads the Ladies into this week’s tournament. In nine rounds this season, Williams leads Centenary with a scoring average of 80.4, finishing 19th in last week’s Nicholls State Lady Colonel Invitational.

Just behind Williams is sophomore Jessica Garza (McKinney, Texas/McKinney North) and junior Chloe’ Mims (Texarkana, Texas/Pleasant Grove).

Garza, the reigning Mid-Continent Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week, has a stroke average of 81.1, finishing tied for 13th in last week’s tournament. Last season at the Troy Women’s Intercollegiate, Garza led Centenary, shooting 163 in two rounds to finish in a tie for 26th place.

With a stroke average of 81.4, Mims has the low round for the Ladies this season, shooting a 3-over 75 two times this season.

Sophomore Leigh Newton (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona Composite) and freshman Mary Kate Byrne (Natchez, Miss./Natchez Cathedral) have played in every tournament this season for the Ladies. Newton, tied for 42nd in last season’s Troy Intercollegiate, shooting 84-84 in the two rounds.

In this week’s tournament, Centenary looks to improve on its 10th-place finish in the 2005 Troy Women’s Intercollegiate, shooting 671 in the two rounds.

A Cam Hardigree design, the course at Arrowhead Country Club has a par of 72.
