Lauren Fielding

ELMHURST, Ill.—Centenary volleyball player Lauren Fielding was named the Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the league office on Monday. It is the second time the freshman from Plano, Texas, has earned the honor in her debut season.

Fielding earns Defensive Player of the Week honors after a record-setting performance last week in leading the Ladies to a 1-1 record. She opened the week with a match-high 19 digs in a four-game loss to Valparaiso. It was the first time Centenary had taken a game from the Crusaders since joining the league in 2003. The following night, she set a new Centenary single-match record with 37 digs in a five-game win over Oakland. For the week, she averaged 6.22 digs per game. Fielding has now reached double-digit digs in 28 straight matches, and is 17 digs short of the school single-season mark of 546.

Fielding and the rest of the Ladies have a busy week with three matches. Centenary will travel to Central Arkansas for a 7 p.m. match on Halloween (Tuesday) before hosting Texas Southern on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Ladies then host Oral Roberts in the home finale of the 2006 season on Friday at 7 p.m.
