SHREVEPORT—The sixth-ranked LSU Tigers defeated the Centenary gymnastics team by the score of 196.800 to 191.400 on Friday night in the Gold Dome. The Shreveport crowd of over 800 spectators was treated to a magnificent performance by LSU’s Ashleigh Clare-Kearne who posted an NCAA season-best 39.775 in the all-around.

Clare-Kearne began her record-breaking night with a 9.900 on the bars to finish in a three-way tie for first place on the apparatus with teammates Susan Jackson and Summer Hubbard. She then captured a 9.975 on the vault, which included her first perfect 10 of the evening from one of the judges, to win the title in her second event.

The junior continued her impressive effort with a top score of 9.975 on the floor. That routine also produced a perfect 10 from one of the judges and she later took the beam crown with a 9.925. On the night, Clare-Kearne won all four events and the all-around.

LSU won all four team events. The Tigers bested the Ladies 49.400 to 47.825 on the vault, 49.325 to 47.600 on the bars, 48.600 to 47.625 on the beam, and 49.475 to 48.350 on the floor exercise.

Although the Tigers compiled big scores, Centenary tallied one of its top team scores on the season as well. The Ladies’ scores on both the beam and floor were the second-best outputs this year.

Individually, freshman Courtney Hawkins gave Centenary its highest placing on the night with a third place finish on the floor with a career-high 9.875. Junior Meredith Smith placed fourth on the vault with a season-high tying 9.825 and sophomore Beth Bowie was fourth on the beam with a season-best 9.750. Senior Kristina Menne’s 38.700 took fourth in the all-around while sophomore Mandy Bennett ranked fifth in both the beam (9.675) and the all-around (38.175).

The Ladies will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Chicago to compete in the Midwest Independent Championships hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago.
