Webb Named Mid-Con Player of the Week

Matt Webb went 3-for-4
against Arkansas last week

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary senior Matt Webb was named Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday.

Webb, an outfielder from Blue Springs, Mo., went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored in the Gents lone game last week, a 16-14 loss to then-No. 9 University of Arkansas at Shehee Stadium. Against the Razorbacks, Webb hit two solo home runs, registering his team-leading second and third homers of the season.

In the first inning against Arkansas, with one runner on base, Webb hit a double to left to score Centenary’s first run of the contest, helping the Gents to an eight-run opening inning.

In Wednesday’s game, Webb led all players with 10 total bases.

With Centenary leading the Mid-Con in team batting average (.277), Webb leads the conference in slugging percentage (.613) and on-base percentage (.571). Batting a team-leading .347 this season, he has a conference-leading 15 stolen bases and has drawn a league-high 34 walks.

The senior leads the Gents with seven doubles and two triples, registering 15 RBI and 21 runs scored.

Webb and the Gents return to action this weekend, hosting IPFW at Shehee Stadium in a four-game series. The series is set to start at 4 p.m. Friday.
