CHICAGO—The Centenary gymnastics team scored a 190.575 at the Midwest Independent Championships hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday to finish in fifth place. UIC won the meet (193.900) while Illinois State (193.375), Southeast Missouri State (193.300), and Texas Woman’s University (191.250) rounded out the participants.

 

Several Ladies placed in the top five of their respective events highlighted by Meredith Smith’s second place showing on the vault. The junior scored a 9.775 to tie with Annie Kachman of UIC and Sandra Blake of SEMO. Meaghan Koshman of Illinois State won the event title with a score of 9.800.

 

Julia Cornelius notched a 9.775 on her beam routine to land in third place for Centenary while Courtney Hawkins’ 9.725 on the floor exercise was good for fourth place. Kristina Menne grabbed fifth place in the all-around with a cumulative effort of 38.475.

 

As a result of their finishes, Smith and Cornelius were named All-MIC First Team and Hawkins and Menne were second team selections.

 

Koshman claimed the title in the all-around with a total score of 39.025.

 

The Ladies will receive over two weeks of rest before traveling to Seattle, Wash., for the USA Gymnastics National Championship beginning on April 18th.
