Gents Host Hal Sutton Intercollegiate at StoneBridge

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary men’s golf team hosts the 2007 Hal Sutton Intercollegiate this week, played Monday and Tuesday at the Golf Course at StoneBridge, in local Bossier City.

Thirteen teams compete in this week’s 54-hole tournament at StoneBridge, with rounds commencing Monday morning.

The par-72, 6,954-yard course at StoneBridge is site of this season’s Mid-Continent Conference Championships, played April 23-24. Participating in this week’s tournament from the Mid-Con will be UMKC, Oakland and Oral Roberts.

Also competing against the Gents this week will be Jackson State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State and North Dakota State. Birmingham-Southern will field two teams this week to bring the tournament field to 13 teams.

Senior David Viviano (Lafayette, La.) leads all Gent golfers into this week’s tournament. Sitting with a scoring average of 77.1, Viviano has played well at StoneBridge this season. In three rounds at the course, the senior shoots an average round of 71.6. He shot his season-low round of 4-under 68 in the Centenary Fall Classic, played at StoneBridge, Sept. 9-10.

Centenary freshman Mark Weeber (Harare, Zimbabwe) is right behind Viviano with a 77.5 scoring average. In two rounds in the Centenary Fall Classic, Weeber shot 73-79 to finish in a tie for 16th in the tournament.

Freshman John Hogan (Eden Prairie, Minn.) has a stroke average of 79.1, while freshman Tyler Williams (Shreveport) shot a 1-over 73 at StoneBridge against Southern Utah March 15. He has a scoring average of 79.4.

The tournament commences with a shotgun start Monday morning, with the second round to follow in the afternoon. The final round of this week’s tournament is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
