Matt Webb leads the Gents
with a .365 average this season

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary baseball team (13-16) face Northwestern State (12-17) Tuesday at Shehee Stadium. With first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m., the Gents look to earn redemption for a 5-4 loss suffered to the Demons earlier this season.

Coming off of a three-game sweep of IPFW over the weekend, Centenary is in high spirits as it continues its homestand at Shehee Stadium.

Senior outfielder Matt Webb (Blue Springs, Mo.) leads the Gents from the plate with a .365 batting average. Leading the Mid-Continent Conference in several offensive categories, Webb has an on-base percentage of .579, racking up 37 walks in 29 games. Over the weekend, the senior hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, while batting .500.

Batting .358 with an on-base percentage of .457, junior outfielder Calvin Sanchez (Santa Cruz, Calif.) continues to rank amongst the best batters in the conference this season. Sanchez has been steady all season, tying for the team lead with 34 hits and scoring 25 runs.

Junior Teddy Saenz (San Jose, Calif.) had a team-leading six RBI in three games over the weekend. This season, Saenz is batting .323 with 20 RBI.

On the mound, Centenary is set to start senior Will Kaage (Burlington, Wash.) in Tuesday’s game against Northwestern State. Kaage has a 5.97 ERA in six starts -- seven appearances -- this season, holding opponents to a .331 batting average. In his six starts, Kaage has a 1-2 record.

In the Feb. 13 game in Natchitoches against Northwestern State, Centenary came out of the gates to lead 2-0, only to allow five-straight runs to fall, 5-4.

In the game, Sanchez went 3-for-4 from the plate with one run scored.

Following Tuesday’s game, Centenary takes off nine days, prior to hosting Chicago State at Shehee Stadium April 13-14.
