Huff Named LSWA Player of the Week

Huff had a team-leading 12 RBI
and a .538 average this weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary senior outfielder Justin Huff was named Louisiana Sportswriters Association Player of the Week Wednesday after his outstanding performance against Western Illinois this past weekend.

Against the Leathernecks, Huff led the Gents with a .538 batting average and 12 RBI. Averaging 3.0 RBI per game this weekend, Huff had his best offensive game thus far this season in Friday’s 14-7 win over Western Illinois. Going 3-for-4 from the plate Friday, Huff registered a career-high eight RBI on two doubles and a grand slam, his first home run of his Centenary career.

The senior outfielder followed up his eight-RBI effort with another outstanding showing in Game 2 of the Saturday doubleheader against the Leathernecks. Huff went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored Saturday afternoon.

He finished the weekend with a team-leading on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of 1.000.

The native of Beaumont, Texas has a .290 batting average and 28 RBI in overall games this season. He stands second on the team with 49 hits and leads Centenary with 17 multi-hit games in 2007.

Huff and the Gents open up the home portion of their Mid-Continent Conference schedule this weekend, hosting Southern Utah in a four-game series starting Friday.
