SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary (26-29, 9-11) enters the Mid-Continent Conference Baseball Championships as the No. 4 seed, kicking off tournament play Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

Playing in the first game of the three-day tournament, which will be played at Boyer Stadium, in Macomb, Ill., the Gents face No. 1 seed and 2007 Mid-Con Regular Season Champions Oral Roberts (37-15, 19-1) Thursday morning. In Thursday’s game, Centenary looks to pull off the upset of the heavily-favored Golden Eagles, who finished the conference schedule with just one loss.

Tournament-hosts Western Illinois, which finished second in the Mid-Con, faces Valparaiso in Thursday’s second game, scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.

Play resumes at the break of dawn Friday, with the losers of both Game 1 and Game 2 facing off in an elimination game at 10 a.m.

The winners of Game 1 and Game 2 meet at 1:15 p.m., with the loser facing the winner of Friday morning’s contest.

The Mid-Con Championship Game is set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Centenary enters tournament play on a three-game winning streak, winning 3-of-4 against Oakland over the weekend. The Gents were led by the strong performance of the pitching staff over the weekend, finishing the series with a 2.38 team ERA against the No. 1 offense in the Mid-Con. In four games against the Golden Grizzlies, no Oakland hitter reached the "warning track" at Shehee Stadium.

At the plate, the Gents boast three players with .300-plus batting averages in overall games, led by junior infielder and All-Mid-Con candidate Teddy Saenz (San Jose, Calif.).

Senior outfielder Justin Huff (Beaumont, Texas) led the Gents in the 20 conference games with a .338 average and 20 RBI.

Centenary departs from Shehee Stadium for Macomb, Ill. Monday evening.
