Gents Face Western Illinois in Elimination Game

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary (26-30) faces Western Illinois (31-25) in the 2007 Mid-Continent Conference Baseball Championships Friday, with the loser eliminated from the tournament. The two teams get it on Friday morning at Boyer Stadium at 10 a.m.

Centenary, the No. 4 seed, looks for redemption after suffering an embarrassing 20-0 loss to No. 1-seeded Oral Roberts in Thursday’s tournament-opening game at Boyer Stadium. This season, the Gents are 2-2 against the Leathernecks, splitting the four-game series in Macomb, Ill., April 27-29.

Western Illinois fell to Valparaiso in dramatic fashion Thursday afternoon. Falling to the Crusaders, 13-10, the Leathernecks allowed seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to drop their first game of the tournament. In the loss, Western Illinois was outhit by a 20-11 margin.

In other conference tournament action, Oral Roberts faces Valparaiso at 1:15 p.m.

The loser of the Oral Roberts/Valparaiso contest faces the winner of Centenary/Western Illinois, with the winner advancing to the conference tournament championship game.
