SHREVEPORT—Centenary men’s basketball coach Rob Flaska has announced the hiring of assistant coaches Adam Walsh and Joe Nagy. The two coaches have already joined the Gents staff and fill the positions vacated by former assistants Bobby Taylor and Jud Kinne.

Walsh comes to Centenary after successful stints at Paris Junior College (Texas), Odessa College (Texas), and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant to head coach Ross Hodge at Paris where he was in charge of recruiting, post skill development, and the strength and conditioning program among other duties.

In 2005-06, Walsh was a volunteer assistant at Odessa after concluding a two-year stay as an assistant for the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from 2003 to 2005. He also served two years at Barton College (North Carolina) from 2001 to 2003 under coach Ron Lievense where his teams were a combined 41-15. In addition, Walsh has compiled an impressive list of camps that he has taught at, which include the universities of Florida, Maryland, and Virginia.

“I have really enjoyed getting to know Coach Flaska over the last two years through mutual friends and I am excited about joining the staff,” said Walsh. “I think he has the program here at Centenary on the verge of gaining national attention and it’s the perfect time to be coming to Shreveport.”

Nagy arrives in Shreveport after two years as the Director of Basketball Operations at UC Santa Barbara. Prior to his time with the Gauchos, he spent several seasons as a successful high school coach. He was the first-ever head coach at Hercules High School (Calif.) and led Berean Christian High School (Calif.) to its first 20-win season in recent years.  He also served as an assistant at both De La Salle and Clayton High School in California. His camp experience includes clinics at Duke and North Carolina.

“Both Adam and Joe bring an energy and enthusiasm to the program that is contagious,” said Flaska. “They live and die basketball and their commitment to the game is tremendous. Both come from successful programs, they are good recruiters, and they have already forged great relationships with the players in the short time they have been on board.”

Walsh and Nagy join returning coach Todd Russ along with Flaska to comprise the Centenary staff for the 2007-08 season.
