LaLonde becomes the fourth
pitcher of the 2007 recruiting class

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary baseball team adds another arm of the 2008 season, signing Bellevue Community College’s Chris LaLonde to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday.

A 6-foot-6, right-handed pitcher from Sammamish, Wash., LaLonde served as both a reliever and starter for Bellevue this season, helping to lead the Bulldogs to the 2007 Northwest Athletic Association of Community College (NWAACC) Championship.

It was this championship experience, along with other strong credentials, that attracted the Centenary coaching staff to Lalonde, who led Bellevue in saves this season with five.

"Chris will immediately step into a middle-relief, mid-week starting role for us next season," said Mike Diaz, Centenary associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. "He shows outstanding control of his pitches and is great off-speed, which makes him perfect for middle relief. Add to the fact he’s coming from the NWAACC champions."

In 12 appearances and four starts, LaLonde amassed a 2-2 record with a 4.58 ERA, finishing tied for sixth in the NWAACC in saves this season. In 35 1/3 innings pitched, he struck out 29 batters in 2007, holding opponents to a .225 batting average.

LaLonde becomes the fourth pitcher to join the 2007 recruiting class for the Gents, joining right-hander Joe Hagen (Renton, Wash.) of Green River Community College, right-hander Justin Kraft (Yakima, Wash.) of Eisenhower High School and right-hander Boone Whiting (Oakdale, Calif.) of Oakdale High School.

LaLonde becomes the second player from Bellevue Community College to sign with Centenary in recent years, joining former Gent starting shortstop Nate Santiago.

Centenary finished the 2007 season runners-up in the Mid-Continent Conference Tournament.
