Rob Flaska and the Gents
will host Texas Tech in the
CenturyTel Center on Dec. 1.

SHREVEPORT—Centenary men’s basketball coach Rob Flaska today officially announced the Gents’ 2007-08 hoops schedule. The docket includes the continuation of several series rivalries in addition to several road trips against top-notch competition. Flaska also announced that Centenary will play in the CenturyTel Center twice during the upcoming season, which includes a trip to the Shreveport-Bossier area by legendary coach Bobby Knight and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Knight and his troops will be hosted by the Gents in the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City on Dec. 1. Centenary has played in Lubbock, Texas, in two of the last three seasons against the Red Raiders.

Flaska and the Gents will also take on Louisiana Tech in the CenturyTel Center in the second year of a four-year deal between the teams on December 13. Centenary will be the visiting team in the match up as the two squads alternate serving as the home team each season. The Gents took the honor last year in their 82-73 win over the I-20 rivals.

Flaska has prepared another challenging early season schedule for Centenary which starts with a tournament at Iowa State on Nov. 9 & 10. The tournament schedule has not been released at this time, but the Gents will face Iowa State and either Lipscomb or Winston-Salem. In addition, the Maroon and White will travel to SMU (Nov. 17), Baylor (Nov. 24), North Texas (Dec. 20), Georgia Tech (Dec. 22), and Hawaii (Dec. 30).

Flaska’s pledge to schedule games against Centenary’s traditional rivalries rings true throughout the 2007-08 campaign. The Gents will host Northwestern State in the Gold Dome on Nov. 27 in what has become a hotly contested series, after traveling to battle Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 20.

The home schedule kicks off with a highly anticipated exhibition contest against NAIA power LSU-Shreveport on Nov. 6 for city bragging rights. The first home regular season game will be on Nov. 14 when the Gents welcome Texas College to campus.

With the addition of IPFW, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State to the Summit League lineup, the conference portion of the schedule will begin sooner than usual. Centenary will open league play with a pair of home games against SDSU and NDSU on Dec. 6 & 8 respectively. The Summit League Tournament will be played March 8-11 in Tulsa, Okla.

“The 2007-08 schedule is very competitive and is obviously highlighted by Texas Tech University and Bobby Knight coming to town,” said Flaska. “The rivalry games will be a lot of fun for the fans and the teams alike and playing games at Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Baylor, Hawaii, SMU, and North Texas will provide a big challenge while getting us ready for conference play.”

Flaska urges people to come out for the conference games as well adding, “There is no clear cut favorite in the Summit League this year and we should be an improved team. The Shreveport-Bossier community will be able to see the Gents against some good Division I basketball programs all season long.”
