SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary (10-11) completed a two-game weekend sweep of Trinity (5-9) with a 5-3 win Sunday at Shehee Stadium. Calvin Sanchez led the Gents in batting over the weekend with a .600 average in the two-game set.

Trailing early to the Tigers in Sunday’s game, two runs in the third inning led the Gents to the 5-3 win.

In the third, freshman Dakota Robinson (Bossier City) led off the inning with a ripped single to center, followed by a Justin Huff (Beaumont, Texas) double to right. Robinson, normally coming out of the bullpen as a reliever for the Gents, got his first-career start in the field, filling-in at first base after an unexpected injury to Nate Santiago (Mukilteo, Wash.) in the pregame.

With Robinson and Huff at second and third, respectively, Sanchez laid down a sacrifice bunt down the first-base line to score Robinson and give the Gents a 2-1 lead.

Senior Matt Webb (Blue Springs, Mo.) brought home Huff with a single up the middle, registering his third RBI of the series.

Up 3-1 after the third, Huff and Sanchez would both score runs to extend Centenary’s lead to 5-1, handing the game off to the pitching staff of the Gents.

Starter Jeremy Sheehan (Bonner Springs, Kan.) went six innings, allowing six hits and striking out four to pick up his third win of the season. Up four runs in his final inning, Sheehan stranded a runner at third when he forced Tigers DH Jordan Pennington to groundout to Centenary shortstop Teddy Saenz (San Jose, Calif.) to end the inning.

For the game, Sheehan stranded four Trinity runners on base.

Freshman Peter Stark (Dallas) and junior Aaron Bronson (Kent, Wash.) combined for three scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s win. Bronson, who pitched the eighth and the ninth innings, picked up his third save of the season Sunday.

In the 5-3 win over the Tigers, Saenz notched a career-high for assists in a game, tying the Centenary season high with eight assists from short.

Sanchez went 3-for-5 from the plate in the weekend series with four RBI and an on-base percentage of .714.

Huff and Webb both hit .500 in the two games against Trinity. Webb picked up three RBI and stole two bases.

Centenary, looking to build off of the weekend sweep, hosts Stephen F. Austin Tuesday at Shehee Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
