Jeremy Sheehan gets the Saturday
start for the Gents this weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary baseball team (10-12) travels to Gary Hogan Field, in Little Rock, Ark., to face the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (7-11) in a three-game series this weekend. Game 1 between the Gents and the Trojans is set for a 6 p.m. start Friday.

Looking to put Tuesday’s 20-4 loss to Stephen F. Austin in their rearview mirror, Centenary gets set for its first road series of the 2007 season.

Leading the Gents from the plate with a .373 batting average, junior Calvin Sanchez (Santa Cruz, Calif.) picked up two hits and an RBI in Tuesday’s game against Stephen F. Austin. The outfielder stands second on the team in both on-base percentage (.500) and slugging percentage (.493), tied for the team lead with 20 runs scored. Sanchez has registered 14 RBI and a team-high five doubles this season.

Senior Matt Webb (Blue Springs, Mo.) stands head-and-shoulders above all players in the Mid-Continent Conference in walks and stolen bases this season. Batting .344 with 11 RBI and 17 runs scored, Webb leads the conference with 31 walks and 15 stolen bases. He leads the Gents with a .584 on-base percentage and a .541 slugging percentage.

Juniors Cameron Penney (Valley Center, Calif.) and Teddy Saenz (San Jose, Calif.) are batting .326 and .320, respectively. Penney leads the team with 29 hits this season, scoring 14 runs.

In the last 10 games, Saenz leads the team with a .367 batting average and an on-base percentage of .537.

Centenary starts senior Brandon Fulenchek (McKinney, Texas), along with juniors Jeremy Sheehan (Bonner Springs, Kan.) and Johnny Noland (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) in this weekend’s series against the Trojans.

Fulenchek gets the nod in Game 1 against UALR. Winning his last two starts, Fulenchek leads all Centenary starters with a 2.19 ERA and a 4-1 record. He has allowed just two hits in his last two starts, not allowing an earned run.

Sheehan earned a 5-3 win over Trinity last weekend, standing with a 3-2 record and a 4.86 ERA, while Noland has 18 strikeouts and a 4.00 ERA. Noland leads all Gent starters in opponents’ batting average, holding opposing batters to a .239 average.

As a team, Centenary is batting .283, while standing with a 4.23 team ERA.

Struggling of late, Arkansas-Little Rock heads into this weekend on an eight-game losing streak.

Most recently falling to Missouri State by a 6-5 margin Tuesday, the Trojans are led at the plate by Brian Smiley. In 15 games, Smiley has a .327 batting average and a team-leading on-base percentage of .450. He has 12 runs scored with seven RBI.

Brian Asbill has a .306 average with 13 RBI to stand second on the Trojans in batting.

This weekend, UALR is set to start David Klumpp and Joe Campbell in Games 1 and 2, respectively.

Klumpp has started a team-high six games this season, sitting with a 1-1 record and a 3.72 ERA. In 29 innings pitched, Klumpp has punched out 32 batters.

Campbell has a 6.26 ERA and a 1-2 record in five starts.

As a team, the Trojans boast a 5.43 ERA and a .240 batting average.

Centenary stands with an 0-2 record on the road this season, looking to capture their first road win in this weekend’s series with the Trojans.
