SHREVEPORT—The Centenary gymnastics team honored seniors Jessie Angus and Kristina Menne in an emotional post-meet ceremony on Saturday in the Gold Dome. Although the Ladies performed well, scoring a season-best team score of 192.150, the Redhawks were too strong in posting a 194.150 for the win.

Southeast Missouri State took all four events over Centenary with the Ladies coming very close to winning the bars. The Redhawks won the event with a 48.600 as every gymnast recorded a 9.625 or higher paced by Maureen Grimaldi’s 9.750 routine.

The Ladies score of 48.450 was just less than two tenths than enough behind Julia Cornelius’ 9.775. Cornelius won the bars individually with that score while teammate Mandy Bennett placed in a second place tie with Grimaldi with a 9.750.

SEMO’s Rikara Turner was last week’s Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week and she showed the crowd of 684 spectators why on Saturday afternoon. The freshman won the balance beam with a score of 9.850 and placed first in the all-around with a total effort of 38.925.

Centenary’s Courtney Hawkins tallied the Ladies highest score of the day when she was given a 9.825 on the floor exercise to win the final event. Other top performers for the Maroon and White included Meredith Smith’s 9.750 second place vault and Bennett’s second place finish in the all-around with a career-best 38.325.

The Ladies return to action for their final home meet of the season on Friday when they host the LSU Tigers in the Gold Dome at 7 p.m.
