SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Centenary women’s golf team head into their final tournament of the 2006-07 regular season, traveling to Calera, Ala. for the Samford University Women’s Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday.

Played at the par-72 Timberline Golf Club, in Calera, the Ladies will be led in this week’s tournament by sophomore Jessica Garza (McKinney, Texas), who ranks amongst the top 10 golfers in the Mid-Continent Conference this season. Leading the Ladies with a 80.4 season average, Garza is coming off shooting 77-78 at the South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational to stand as the high finisher for Centenary.

Standing second on Centenary in stroke average, sophomore Tracy Williams (Van Alstyne, Texas) carries a 81.1 average into this week’s Samford Intercollegiate. Right behind Williams, junior Chloe’ Mims (Texarkana, Texas) has a scoring average of 81.2 this season. Mims has the low round this season for the Ladies shot in Centenary’s last tournament, carding a 1-over 73 in the first round of the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational, March 5.

Sophomore Leigh Newton (Edmonton, Alberta) and freshman Brittany Blackwell (Colleyville, Texas) are averaging 86.2 and 86.5, respectively, this season per round.

In this week’s tournament, Centenary looks to build upon shooting its best score for a two-round event, shooting a 641 in its last tournament in Mobile, Ala. March 5-6.

Competitors take to the course Monday morning for this week’s event.
