SHREVEPORT - The Centenary tandem of Justin Kraft and Boone Whiting were again honored as Freshman All-Americans. Ping! Baseball has selected Kraft second team and Whiting third team All-America.

SHREVEPORT - After its most successful season in 16 years, the Centenary baseball team has signed nine student-athletes for 2009, which includes six from the Shreveport area. Head coach Ed McCann will welcome Morgan Brian (Shreveport), Allen Degges (Shreveport), Jacob Harrell (Benton, La.), Derek Harwell (Ozark, Mo.), Seth Lugo (Bossier City), Reed Moore (Benton, La.), Tell Ross (Troup, Texas), Cliff Shepard (Anthem, Ariz.) and Charlie Yokem (Shreveport).

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Centenary pitchers Justin Kraft and Boone Whiting were selected to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team on Wednesday. The team was chosen by Collegiate Baseball.

TULSA, Okla. - After hitting .429 at The Summit League Baseball Championship, Centenary junior Ryan Bernsen was named to the all-tournament team. Bernsen either led or was tied for the team lead in all offensive categories during the tournament, which include at-bats (7), hits (3), RBIs (2) and total bases (3).

SHREVEPORT - Centenary sophomore pitcher Dakota Robinson has been invited to play in one of the most prestigious summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. The Bossier City, La., native was originally signed for just a two week try out in the Cape Cod League, but was asked recently to play the full summer because of an injury.

The win over the Razorbacks, was Centenary's first victory over a SEC opponent since the 6-1 win over LSU back in 2005.

The fourth seeded Centenary Gents were down 9-0 to top seeded Oral Roberts in the final game of the 2007 Mid-Continent Conference Baseball Championship. As the Eagles were preparing to claim their 10th straight league Mid-Con championship, an hour and half rain delay temporarily suspended the inevitable conclusion. ORU had the Gents' number all season, outscoring them 57-8 their previous five matchups which included a humbling 20-0 pasting in the first game of the tournament. Had Disney writers been able to pen the game's finale, the boys from Shreveport would have launched into a fervent rally and claimed the conference crown (perhaps as an injured star player listened from his hospital bed to the play by play from an old AM radio with a wire hanger and piece of aluminum foil for an antenna...); however that wasn't the case. The Gents' offense was retired after plating only a single run and ORU continued on to the NCAA Regionals while Centenary's season came to an end.

The Gents received 35 points and one first place vote, while Oral Roberts the top point getter, received 49 with seven first place votes.

Rivals.com selected the Gents third in the Summit League preseason poll after finishing the 2007 season runner-up to Oral Roberts in the conference tournament. The publication also picked sophomore pitcher Dakota Robinson as preseason first team all-conference.

SHREVEPORT - On Friday the 15th annual Curtis H. Stout Invitational was asuccess, as 128 golfers participated in the event to help raise money forthe Centenary baseball team. This year head baseball coach Ed McCannwelcomed two special guests to the links, Boston Red Sox pitcher ClayBuchholz and former Chicago Cubs second baseman Todd Walker.

SHREVEPORT - Centenary baseball coach Ed McCann will be honored as one of the most influential people in the Ark-La-Tex on Friday. Along with 14 other individuals, McCann will be recognized for his efforts in raising awareness and funds for those affected with neuromuscular diseases.

SHREVEPORT - On Tuesday the Centenary baseball team visited with the children who call Shriners Hospital home. The Gents gave the kids autograph baseballs, took pictures and talked with about 20 of the patients.

SHREVEPORT -- On Sunday and Monday of this week the Centenary baseball team helped host and answer telephones for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. The Gents helped raise more money than ever before in the Bossier City/Shreveport area.

For the third time in the last four years, a Centenary student-athlete has been named Mid-Continent Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as Brandon Fulenchek (McKinney, Texas) took the conference's top academic honor after graduating summa cum laude in May and earning a 3.96 GPA, while majoring in economics and finance.

The Centenary baseball team and head coach Ed McCann have announced the signing of pitcher/infielder Derek Dalzell (Bay City, Mich.), outfielders Jared Dysart (Bossier City, La.), Steele Lewis (Kingsville, Ontario, Canada) and Raberto Tabor (Kalamazoo, Mich.) to a National Letter of Intent. Dalzell, Dysart, Lewis and Tabor are eligible to play for the Gents in 2008, and become the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th to sign with the Gents in the off-season.
