ELMHURST, Ill. - The 2007-08 Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence has been released and nine Centenary softball student-athletes were honored for their academic prowess. The Ladies placed more student-athletes on the esteemed list than any other softball team in The Summit League.

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Louisiana Sports Writers Association announced its softball All-Louisiana teams over the weekend and Centenary third baseman Allison Shepperd was named to the second team. NCAA World Series participant Louisiana-Lafayette took home four of the five top individual awards in the voting.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team ended its 2008 season last weekend in The Summit League Softball Championship in Cedar City, Utah, but the Ladies enjoyed a successful campaign overall. Senior Jennifer Martin and sophomore Allison Shepperd were named to the All-Tournament team for their exceptional play, and with a young team, the Maroon and White will look to make another exciting run next season.

CEDAR CITY, UTAH - The Centenary softball team put up 16 runs in its two games of The Summit League Softball Championships on Friday, but it wasn't enough. The Ladies allowed 25 runs and lost both their games, which eliminated them from the tournament and ended their season.

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League conference office today announced its 2008 Softball All-Summit League Teams. Five Centenary players were recognized for their stellar play this season in leading the Ladies to a 17-7 conference record and the top seed in The Summit League Tournament. Shortstop Emerald Doria and third baseman Allison Shepperd were selected as first team members, while designated player Caitlin Cavarra and pitchers Ryan Thacker and Stacy Whitmer were named to the second team.

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Centenary softball team begins its two-day battle to gain entry into the NCAA Tournament on Friday morning as it faces Western Illinois in The Summit League Softball Championships. The top-seeded Ladies will take on the fourth-seeded Westerwinds at 11 a.m. central on the campus of Southern Utah.

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League office has announced that Centenary's Bonnie Matak has been named the conference's Player of the Week for softball. It is the first such honor for the freshman in her young career and is the second time this season a Ladies player has received the award (Lauren Flowers).

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team secured the top seed in the upcoming Summit League Softball Championship by taking two of three games at IPFW last weekend. The Ladies will be looking for their third tournament win since joining the conference in 2004 when they take the field this weekend in Cedar City, Utah.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Centenary softball team needed just one win in its series with IPFW to sure up the top seed in next week's Summit League Tournament. It looked like that victory would not come in today's doubleheader until a late rally and an excellent pitching job by Lauren Highsmith saved the day, leading to a 4-2 win in 13 innings for the Ladies.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Centenary softball team used a 9-3 victory over IPFW on the road Saturday to close out its regular season by winning two of three from the Mastodons. The Ladies pounded out 10 hits and used a four-run sixth inning to pull away.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Centenary softball team has locked up its fifth straight berth into The Summit League Softball Tournament in as many years in the conference. The Ladies are assured of no worse than the third seed, but they control their own destiny in earning a higher slot depending on the outcome of their series at IPFW this weekend.

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League conference office has announced that Centenary softball player Stacy Whitmer has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week. It is the second time this season that Whitmer has earned the honor and the fifth time a Ladies pitcher has been given the award overall this year.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team won its fifth consecutive game and earned the season series sweep over in-state rival Northwestern State with an easy 9-1 win on Tuesday. The Ladies used 14 hits in only five innings to end the game by the eight-run mercy rule. The victory improved Centenary's record over Louisiana opponents to 10-0 this season.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team won its fourth straight game and its seventh in its last 10 tries by defeating Western Illinois, 2-1, on Saturday. Sophomore Allison Shepperd lined her school-record tying 17th double of the season in the sixth inning of the victory. She now sits fourth all-time in career doubles (29) in just her second season.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team used a walk-off grand slam and a near no-hitter to sweep Western Illinois, 6-2 and 7-1, on Friday in Summit League softball action. It was a long day for both teams as game one went extra innings and game two was delayed for 43 minutes due to lightning in the Shreveport area. However, the Ladies persevered to collect their 30th win of the season.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team hosts Western Illinois in a three-game Summit League series starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. The Ladies have traditionally had tough battles with the Westerwinds as both teams have been competing for the conference title year in and year out. Centenary holds the slim advantage in the all-time series, 8-7.

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Centenary softball team used a two-run homerun from freshman Bonnie Matak in the sixth to erase an early 3-0 deficit and win 4-3 at Northwestern State on Wednesday. The victory is the fourth in a row on the road for the Ladies and improves Centenary's record against Louisiana opponents to a perfect 9-0 on the season.

SHREVEPORT - In the first three innings on Saturday it was smooth sailing for both starting pitchers, as Ryan Thacker and Bekki Rasmussen each allowed just one base hit. However, in the fourth Centenary was able to strike first, but couldn't hold the lead against North Dakota State, falling, 6-1, in Summit League play.

SHREVEPORT - On a sunny Friday evening, the Centenary softball team had things clicking early, but a costly fifth inning error proved to be the difference in game one. The Ladies were defeated by North Dakota State in a Summit League doubleheader, 5-4, and 4-0, at the Centenary Softball Complex.

LORMAN, Miss. - The Centenary softball team won its third straight road game on Wednesday by a 3-1 count at Alcorn State. The Ladies have played seven of their last nine games away from home, but return to the Centenary Softball Complex this weekend to host North Dakota State in a battle for first place in The Summit League.

Ladies' fans, welcome back! This past week has been stressful as we are fighting the end of school and the deepest and most challenging part of our season. We made a great run at our school's consecutive win record of any sport, just two games shy of tying. Though, in the end, even though our streak came to an end, it was by far the best feeling I have ever had while playing ball at Centenary.

OMAHA, Neb. - The Centenary softball team saw its wild ride to a record 14-game win streak come to an end on Friday in Omaha. The Ladies dropped a doubleheader to South Dakota State in the neutral city and lost their first two Summit League games of the season at the same time. The Jackrabbits defeated the Maroon and White 7-3 in the opener and pulled out a 3-2 win in extra innings in the nightcap.

The Ladies received their bye weekend in Summit League play a few days ago and Coach Mark Montgomery gave the team the weekend off. MONROE, La. - A day after tying the school record for consecutive wins with a come-from-behind extra-inning victory, the Centenary softball team blew out ULM on its home field, 7-1, to set the new mark at 13 wins and counting. The Ladies used 10 hits and solid pitching to take their 20th game out of their last 22 contests.

The win gives the Ladies back-to-back sweeps in conference play and extends Centenary's winning streak to eight straight, which includes 15 wins in its last 17 games overall.

Kansas City, Mo. - By agreement between the coaches, the softball series between UMKC and Centenary originally slated to begin Monday has been postponed until Tuesday in order to avoid forecasts of inclement weather. The series will still begin with a doubleheader, although the start time for the game has been moved to 3 p.m. The final game of the series is scheduled for a noon start on Wednesday.

Greetings from the softball diamond - With only three days left to recuperate from our first tournament in Texarkana, we packed our bags for Waco, Texas, for yet another challenging weekend of softball. Headed to Baylor University for their annual Getterman Classic against Syracuse, Purdue, and #7 Baylor, we had high expectations as a team.

The Ladies were upended by Purdue, 8-0, and then lost a close game with #7 Baylor on its home field, 4-2. Allison Shepperd and Haley Bassett were named to the all-tournament team for their outstanding efforts over the weekend.

Centenary and Syracuse did get their game underway, but it was cancelled after an inning and a half with no score. The Ladies games on Saturday will not be made up and the tournament will resume with Sunday's original schedule. Centenary will play Purdue at 1 p.m. and #7 Baylor at 3 p.m.

ELMHURST, Ill.-The Summit League released its preseason softball poll today and Centenary was tabbed fourth by the voting panel comprised of the league's nine head coaches. The Ladies received 42 points overall and finished fourth in the final standings last season.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- After making school history in state flag football intramural tournament in November, the Centenary softball and women's soccer team, along with a member of Chi-Omega played in the Southern Mississippi Regional Tournament during the weekend.

BATON ROUGE, La. - On Saturday and Sunday, the Centenary softball and women's soccer team, along with a member of Chi-Omega took part in the Louisiana State Intramural Flag Football Tournament. The Ladies went 2-1 in pool play on Saturday, which was good enough to advance them into the tournament on Sunday afternoon.

SHREVEPORT - Centenary head softball coach Mark Montgomery has announced six additions to his 2008-09 roster. Monica Acuna, Phyllis Hafer, Vicki Honeycutt, Katie Matthews, Lindsey Smith, and Jenny Varteressian have all signed National Letters of Intent in the early period to play for the Ladies next season.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team recently continued its string of community service projects by visiting the Shriners Hospital. The Shriners of North America have a philanthropic mission to support Shriners Hospitals for Children, a world-class network of 22 pediatric specialty hospitals located throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals for Children have significantly improved the lives of more than 800,000 children.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary Ladies softball team took time out of their fall practice schedule to spend a few hours helping out the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank recently. The visit to the food bank is just one of many community service projects head coach Mark Montgomery has lined up for the Ladies during the 2007-08 school year.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team finished its fall schedule with an impressive 8-1-1 record after sweeping all three of its games last weekend in the second of its fall tournaments. The Ladies discarded Louisiana Tech, Arkansas Tech, and Bossier Parish Community College with the pitching staff combining for a stellar 0.33 earned run average.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary softball team pushed its fall tournament record to 5-1-1 with a pair of impressive wins at its own tournament last weekend. The Ladies offense posted 20 runs in three games and the pitching staff allowed only three runs in 23 innings.

BOSSIER CITY, La. - The 2007-08 Centenary softball team saw its first action of the new school year over the weekend. The Ladies participated in the Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) Tournament, where they went 3-0-1.

SHREVEPORT - Centenary head softball coach Mark Montgomery has released the Ladies 2008 schedule. The slate features over 15 contests against major conference schools from the Big 12, SEC, Big 10, Big East, WAC, and Conference USA as well as a mix of contests against regional opponents.

The Ladies will host a pair of tournaments at the Centenary Softball Complex with the first scheduled for Sept. 29th and the second slated for Oct. 6th. The team will also compete in the Bossier Parish Community College Tournament on Sept. 22nd.

SHREVEPORT - Centenary head softball coach Mark Montgomery has announced the addition of Dan Moreman to his staff. Moreman will serve as a volunteer assistant working with both Montgomery and assistant coach Lyndsey Angus.
