Thursday, September 13, 2007

SHREVEPORT – Looking to continue its momentum from last weekend’s two wins, the Centenary women’s soccer team will play host to Northwestern State on Friday and Arkansas comes to town on Sunday. The Ladies lead the all-time series over Northwestern State and are tied with Arkansas.

Centenary is winners of two in a row, which includes shutouts of Texas State and Grambling State. After blanking the Bobcats and Tigers, Ladies goalkeeper Ali Hilsher earned The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career.

Centenary is 9-5-0 all-time against Northwestern State and 1-1 against Arkansas. The Demons got the best of the Ladies last season in Natchitoches, 2-0. The Lady Razorbacks and Centenary have not met since 1994, as the Ladies edged out Arkansas 1-0.

Northwestern State is 2-2-0 on the season, as it won two in a row before dropping its last contest to North Texas on Sept. 9. Coming into Friday night’s contest the Demons are led by Erin Herbert, who scored two goals last week and was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Arkansas is 3-2-0 on its young 2007 campaign, and like NSU it was winners of two in a row before dropping its last match. The Lady Razorbacks are led offensively by Kelly O’Connor, who has three goals and an assist. Defensively Arkansas is anchored by Britni Williams, who has allowed just three goals and has three shutouts.

Following the two big home matches this weekend, the Ladies will be on the road to play McNeese State and Louisiana Tech next weekend.
