Sunday, September 23, 2007

SHREVEPORT – Junior captain Aaron Volanski scored three goals against IUPUI on Sunday afternoon in Summit League action. However, the Gents fell to the Jaguars 4-3, despite getting a lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the match.

The Gents fell down quickly to the Jags 2-0, but Centenary stormed back late in the first half when Volanski nailed his first goal to make it 2-1 at the break. The stats in the period were even, as the Gents had seven shots, while the Jags had six.

In the second half, Centenary tied the match on Volanski’s scored controversial goal, after IUPUI goalkeeper David Barszczowski asked the referee a question and was out of position. In the 83rd minute, Volanski was back at it again as he gave the Gents a short lived lead, after connecting on his eighth goal of the year.

However, in the final four minutes of the match, IUPUI still had some fight in them as it scored twice to dash the Gents hopes.

Overall, Centenary had 13 shots total, while IUPUI also had 13. Each goalkeeper made two saves, as Barszczowski and senior James Speed had a stop in each period.

Centenary is now 1-7-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference, while IUPUI is now 2-5-1 and 1-0-0 in the Summit League. The next action for the Gents will be on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Memphis.
