SHREVEPORT - Centenary men's basketball coach Greg Gary has announced the 2008-09 Gents schedule and fans will notice it is chalked full of big names. Followers will also notice that the Gents will be playing just one home contest until their first Gold Dome Summit League match up on January 8th.

SHREVEPORT-While playing basketball in the early 1970s at Centenary College, David Deets had dreams of coaching after he graduated. He never imagined he would one day be in charge of a school district. But that is exactly what happened for the 1974 graduate when on April 23, 2008, he was named the new Orion School superintendent in Orion, Ill.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary College has embarked on an ambitious summer project of renovations and new construction totaling more than $2 million. Included in the projects are renovations to the Gold Dome and residence halls, construction of Riggs Plaza and the Leadership Fountains, and various smaller projects around the campus.

SHREVEPORT - The summer brings camps to the Gold Dome and the Centenary Athletic Department and this year is no different. New men's basketball coach Greg Gary will get his first camp underway beginning June 15th and will offer another camp from June 30th to July 3rd.

SHREVEPORT - Centenary head men's basketball coach Greg Gary has announced the signing of Daman Starring to a National Letter of Intent. Starring is Gary's first signee since taking over at the helm of the Gents basketball program on April 11th.

SHREVEPORT - Centenary men's basketball coach Greg Gary has chosen Kim Lewis to be his top assistant for his inaugural 2008-09 season at the helm of the Gents program. Gary announced on Thursday that his former co-worker at Duquesne and teammate at Tulane would join the Centenary coaching staff immediately.

TULSA, Okla. - The Centenary men's basketball team had a tough task at hand on Saturday as it faced top seeded Oral Roberts in its hometown in the first round of The Summit League Basketball Championship presented by J.D. ELMHURST, Ill. - Centenary men's basketball players Tyrone Hamilton and Nick Stallings were selected to The Summit League Honorable Mention All-League Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday. It is the first postseason award for Stallings, while Hamilton was named to the second team last season.

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Centenary men's basketball team held South Dakota State to just 32 percent shooting on its own court to end the regular season with a 69-64 victory on Saturday. The win places the Gents in ninth place in The Summit League standings and the Jackrabbits finish last in their first season in the conference.

FARGO, N.D. - Brett Winkelman scored 30 points as one of four North Dakota State players to score in double figures on Thursday night. The Bison outscored Centenary 21-7 off of turnovers and pulled away in the second half to take the 91-73 win over the Gents in Summit League action.

FARGO, N.D. - The Centenary men's basketball team will wrap up its regular season with a trip through North and South Dakota this weekend. The Gents will tackle North Dakota State on Thursday at 7 p.m. before battling South Dakota State in the season finale on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. It will be the first trip for the Gents to the Dakotas since the two schools were added to The Summit League last summer.

SHREVEPORT - For the second time this season the Centenary men's basketball team had a win against UMKC, but could not hold on. The result was a 75-65 overtime loss to the Kangaroos in the Gold Dome on Saturday; the Gents third overtime Summit League home loss this year.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary men's basketball team will wrap up the home portion of its 2007-08 season with a homecoming match-up with UMKC on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.. The Kangaroos are just one game in front of the Gents with three games left in the Summit League schedule. A Centenary win would move them in front of UMKC as the Gents would then hold the tiebreaker.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary men's basketball team shot over 60 percent from the field, drained 11 3-pointers, and received a career-high 35 points from Nick Stallings, but could not defeat Southern Utah in the Gold Dome on Thursday night. SHREVEPORT - In a marathon game that lasted nearly two and a half hours without an overtime and saw 87 free throw attempts, Centenary outlasted Western Illinois to end its six-game losing streak with a 95-88 victory on Thursday. The Gents made good on 13 consecutive free throws to end the game as both teams combined to score 25 points in the final 47 seconds of the contest as the clock seemed to never move.

The event was emceed by Centenary students Ben Crismon and Lindsay Ezell and featured several contests in addition to the Ladies and Gents basketball teams showing a preview of what fans can expect from the teams this season. Some of the fanfare included a costume contest, shooting contests, scrimmages, a performance by the Centenary gymnastics team, and a slam dunk contest, which was won by junior Nick Stallings. The Jaguars received 396 total points and 12 first-place votes to edge out defending champion Oral Roberts (393 points, 10 first-place votes). Centenary is projected to place ninth in the ten-team league after garnering 129 points from league coaches, sports information directors, and selected media members.

SHREVEPORT - The Centenary men's basketball team took time on Tuesday to visit the campus of Bethune Middle Academy in Shreveport to help promote the PRIME TIME reading program. The Gents walked the campus, meeting with teachers and students during the school day, and then returned to participate in the program that evening.
