Ladies and Thunderbirds Tie in Summit League Play
Wednesday, October 3, 2007

SHREVEPORT – Freshman Catie Depew scored her first career goal for the Centenary (4-7-1, 0-1-1) women’s soccer team, and it perhaps could have been the biggest of her collegiate life in the 1-1 tie on Tuesday night against Southern Utah (1-3-5, 0-1-3). In the 47th minute of play, Depew headed a ball off the foot of sophomore Kristine Weaver, and it just got past the Thunderbird keeper.

Continuing to play well for the Ladies is senior goalkeeper Ali Hilsher, who made three saves, but dove to stop two late attempts by SUU. Her counterpart Holly Senter also made three saves, but made a great stop in the first overtime.

Offensively, Ladies sophomore Brittany Brooke O’Neal tied for a match-high with four shots, while senior Bre Fletcher had three. The Thunderbirds were led by Shaley Ipson, who tallied four shots, while Brooklyn Phillips and Laura Goodrich had three.

The next action for Centenary will be on Sunday at Oakland. The Ladies will not return home until Oct. 18 when they host Mississippi Valley State.
