Conference Swing Takes Ladies to UMKC, Western

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary volleyball team takes to the road for two Summit League matches this weekend. The Ladies will try to find their winning ways against UMKC on Friday in Kansas City, Mo., before visiting Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill., on Saturday.


Centenary (1-16, 0-4 Summit) ranks in a tie for first place in the Summit League in team service aces. The Ladies have tallied 106 aces in 59 games for an average of 1.80 per game. Those numbers are identical to those of Oral Roberts. Four Centenary players are in the top 10 for individual aces per game, including Stephanie Hobaugh and Lindsay Bekelja who are tied for third (0.41 pg.). Elise Sisson occupies eighth place (0.36 pg.) and Ashlee Freeman is holding down 10th (0.34 pg.).


Bekelja has also cracked the top 10 in assists per game at 7.95, which is seventh-best in the league. Yvonne Ramirez’s 3.56 digs per game lands her in ninth place as well.


UMKC (3-15, 0-4 Summit) will come into Friday’s match on a 12-match losing skid. Sarah Johnson leads the Kangaroo attack with 172 kills on the season. Jamie Hagerman and Mandy Tipton front the UMKC defense with 54 total blocks and 293 digs respectively.


Western Illinois (5-10, 2-2 Summit) currently sits in a fourth place tie in the Summit League standings. The Westerwinds defeated IUPUI and UMKC in five games each, but dropped both ends of their road trip last weekend at North and South Dakota. Ashley Baker’s 211 kills ranks her seventh in the league at 3.58 kills per game. She is also the top server in the conference with 0.54 aces per game.
