Henderson State no Match for Gents Swimming

SHREVEPORT – Winning five out of the first seven events on Saturday helped propel the Centenary men’s swimming team to a victory on Saturday afternoon over Henderson State, 165-95.

 

Gents senior Ross Gilbert (10:17.81) started the winning with a victory in the 1000 yard freestyle, while junior Chase Lambert (1:46.08) was the victor in the 200 yard freestyle. Senior Adam D’Aquin (55:21) and freshman Arron Otto (55.41) kept things rolling with a first and second place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke.

 

The 200 yard butterfly was a one-two-three finish for sophomore’s Rustin Green (1:59.77), Quinn Larwood (2:01.19) and David Berude (2:05.39). In the next event junior Bryan Myers (22.35) and sophomore John Cefalu (22.63) were one and two in the 50 yard freestyle. 

 

In another one and two finish, sophomore Alex Opland (2:02.62) and Otto (2:04.28) helped hold off the competition in the 200 yard backstroke. Junior Wladimir Montoya (4:57.17) and Gilbert again were the top finishers in the 500 yard freestyle.

 

During the 100 yard butterfly, Cefalu (54.77) was the winner by the slightest of margins over Sarper Turker (54.78) of Henderson State, one hundredth of a second. Senior Robert Hendricks (4:24.74) and Larwood (4:26.66) were first and second in the 400 yard IM, while Montoya, Cefalu, Dustin Myers and Bryan Myers topped the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:27.81).

 

On Oct. 26 and 27 the men will spend time in the Metroplex, as they meet with TCU on Friday and SMU on Saturday.
