SHREVEPORT – In the 80th minute of action the Centenary (5-10-1) women’s soccer team got all it needed with a goal by senior Bre Fletcher. The Ladies defeated a tough Mississippi Valley State Devilettes (7-6-1) team 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.

Centenary opened the offensive flood gates on Thursday when it hammered out 19 shots and nine that hit goal. However, MVSU was not far behind as it had 13 shots and five landing out goal.

Sophomore Kate Donnelly got her first start of the season, and she made the most of it making a career-high five saves. MVSU’s goalkeeper Maria Del Guercio made eight of nine stops.

Fletcher’s goal was set up by freshman Candace Rushing, who gave her first collegiate assist. The Schertz, Texas, natives goal was her first of the year and ninth of her four year career. Rushing’s assist was a bit of sweet redemption, as she had a chance to score late in the first half on a penalty kick, but the ball hit the post and she was unable to get the rebound put back from sophomore Tracy Apgar.

With the weekend off Centenary will then return home for Summit League action on Oct. 26 against South Dakota State, and then will play North Dakota State on Oct. 28.
