ELMHURST, Ill. – After nailing the match-winning goal late in the first half on Friday against Oral Roberts, redshirt freshman Mo Assi was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week. Along with his goal, Assi also helped the Gents with their third shutout of the season, and they also held the Golden Eagles to only three shots.

The Spring, Texas, native has played in nine of the 12 matches this season, and has two shots. Assi’s biggest shot of the season came with 12 seconds left in the first period, when he hit pay dirt on an indirect free kick.

This is the first time since 2005, the Centenary men’s soccer team received a Player of the Week honor. However, earlier this season senior Aaron Volanski won the Summit League’s Player of the Month award.

Assi helped put his teammates in third place in the Summit League standings with only two matches remaining in conference play. The Gents are a half game up on UMKC, who still has three Summit League matches remaining, including a game at Oral Roberts on Saturday.

Centenary will be on the road this week, traveling to Tulsa on Thursday and then to Western Illinois on Saturday.
