Battle on the Bend, Gents Golf Finishes Ninth

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Centenary men’s golf team cut eight strokes off of its first round score, but the Gents still finished ninth at the Battle of the Bend, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday. Centenary finished the two-day event with a 664 finishing 83 strokes behind first place Sam Houston State, who won the tournament with a final score of 581.


The top finisher for the Gents was freshman Greg Berthelot (86-79, 165), who was just seven over par in the second round, but ended the tournament in 48th place. Sophomore Nick Faitz (86-80, 166) cut six strokes off of his first day score and finished tied for 49th with classmate Nick Weeber (81-85, 166).


Freshmen Ryan Sparks (83-87, 170) and Diego Martin-Perez (88-84, 172) round out the Gents golfers as they finish in 54th and 57th place respectively.


This was the last fall tournament for Centenary and it will begin its spring season on Feb. 9-12 at Southern Utah.
