Thursday, November 8, 2007

SHREVEPORT – Now that the preseason is over, the Centenary women’s basketball team can now get ready for one of its toughest tests of the season. On Sunday, the Ladies will begin the regular season at 2 p.m. when they travel to SEC foe Mississippi State.

MSU, who will open its season on Friday against Southeastern Louisiana, was picked to finish seventh in the SEC. The Lady Bulldogs return 12 letterwinners, along with three starters, including sophomore Alexis Rack, who was named to the 2006-07 SEC All-Freshman Team.

The game with MSU will have special meaning for Centenary Head Coach Steve Curtis, who spent four total seasons in Starkville, Miss. Curtis helped coach the Lady Bulldogs to several postseason appearances, including two Elite Eights.

Centenary in its preseason game was victorious over LSU-Shreveport 72-64, as junior Cierra Bush led the team with 15 points. However, it was the play of sophomore Leslie Forest, who turned the most heads as she had 11 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Ladies also had an impressive night from the floor as they tallied a 62 percent shooting performance. Centenary was 28-of-45 from the field, while also shooting 60 percent from outside, going 3-for-5. The Ladies also cleaned up the glass as they pulled down 42 rebounds, and held LSUS to 28 boards.

After Sunday’s game Centenary will travel to Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday, before returning home on Saturday, Nov. 17, to play Birmingham-Southern at 2 p.m.
