ELMHURST, Ill. – On Thursday it was announced by the Summit League offices, Centenary women’s soccer freshman defender Catie Depew was named to the All-Newcomer Team, as voted on by the league coaches. Depew was one of three defenders to be given the honor this season.

Depew played in all 19 matches this year, and helped hold opposing offenses to 1.39 goals a game and a .088 shot on goal percentage. However, the Katy, Texas, native was not all defense, as she scored a goal and had two shots on the season. Her first career goal came against Southern Utah in the 47th minute off of an indirect kick to tie the game.

This is the second time in as many years Centenary has received this honor, as sophomore forward Stefani Robbs was named to the Mid-Con’s All-Newcomer Team last season after scoring five goals and giving off an assist.

“Coach Evans and I are very proud of who Catie is and how she played this first year,” said Head Coach Chase Wooten. “She did a ton for our team, and she will continue to be a force on the defensive side of the field for years to come.”

Joining Depew on the All-Newcomer team is IUPUI’s Danielle Clark, North Dakota State’s Abbey Stratton, Candice D’Arcangeli (2 goals, 1 assist) and Quin Ryan (6 goals, 1 assist), Oakland’s Jamie Hulet (6 goals, 2 assists) and Elizabeth Watza (1.11 GAA, 30 saves), Oral Roberts’ Duncan, Southern Utah’s Allison Goettsche (2 goals, 1 assist) and Jessica Heninger (2 goals, 1 assist) and Western Illinois’ Kelsey Pillsbury (2 goals, 1 assist).
