SHREVEPORT – After closing out 2007 with a victory, the Centenary women’s basketball team will look to start the new year as winners of two in a row on Saturday against Oral Roberts. The Ladies are also trying to win two straight for the first since the 2003-04 season, when they defeated Birmingham-Southern and Chicago State.

Centenary (3-9, 0-2 Summit League) defeated Sam Houston State, 74-62, on Monday, while ORU (8-5, 2-0 Summit League) was a 60-40 winner over UT-Pan American on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Ladies were led by Super Sophomore Bethany Joseph, who scored a career-high 26 and also tied the school record for 3-point field goals made in a game with six. The freshmen Dynamic Duo of Anne Farrell and Ashley Jackson also had a big game, as they combined to score 24 points and grab 24 rebounds.

Continuing her outstanding play for Centenary is junior Karolina Zaloga, who is third in the conference in assists per game (5) and total assists (60), but is fifth in assists/turnover ratio (1.58).

Prior to its thumping of Pan American, ORU had lost three in a row for the first time since the 2005-06 season when it dropped four straight. Against UTPA, the Golden Eagles were led by Mariana Camargo, who scored 12 in almost 40 minutes of action.

For the season, ORU is led by Jenny Hardin, who is scoring 14.3 points per game, while Janae Voelker chips in with 11.8 points and pulls down 7.5 rebounds per contest. Also helping to lead the Golden Eagles is Camargo, who averages 6.2 assists and is fourth in scoring with 11.6 points a game.

After the Saturday’s matinee, Centenary will make a trip to the chilly Midwest next week when they play Summit League newcomer IPFW on Saturday.
