Gents Welcome IPFW to the Gold Dome

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary men’s basketball team is looking to end a three-game slide when it hosts IPFW in the Gold Dome on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Gents need a win with only eight games left to make a move towards a higher seed in The Summit League Tournament next month.

Centenary (9-13, 3-7 Summit) wrapped up a tough three-game road trip with a 73-62 loss at the hands of league-leader Oral Roberts last Saturday. The Gents held the Golden Eagles to just 32 percent shooting, but ORU was awarded 50 free throws to Centenary’s 12. The resulting 27-point differential at the free throw line was too much to overcome for the Gents.

Prior to the loss at Oral Roberts, Centenary lost by just three points at Southern Utah and UMKC.

The Gents look to begin their run towards the tournament this week with home games against IPFW and Oakland, both of whom are in the top half of the league standings. Centenary is 6-2 at home, suffering only two overtime losses and IPFW is 0-11 on the road this year.

Junior Tyrone Hamilton continues to climb his way up the lists in the Centenary record book as he now sits 21st all-time in scoring with 1,159 career points. He also ranks fifth in 3-pointers made (181) and attempted (469). Hamilton leads the Gents with an average of 17.5 points per game.

Fellow junior Nick Stallings is posting 16.1 points per contest and junior Lance Hill is tossing in 12.2 points for Centenary, who averages 71.5 points per game as a team.

IPFW (9-13, 6-5 Summit) is riding a two-game win streak after defeating both South Dakota State and North Dakota State at home last weekend. Jaraun Burrows is leading the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game, but he poured in 30 in his last outing.

Ben Botts (11.1), DeWitt Scott (10.1), and Demetrius Johnson (9.8) are also making significant contributions on offense for the Mastodons.

IPFW leads the all-time series 2-1. Each team has been successful in defending its home court as all three road teams have lost in the three match-ups. The Mastodons took the first meeting between the two teams this season, 71-52, in Fort Wayne, Ind.

As always, the game can be heard locally on the radio at KSCL 91.3 FM and over the internet at A live video stream can be viewed via The Summit League website,
