Gents Golf Spring Season Begins Sunday

SHREVEPORT – After an up and down fall season, the Centenary men’s golf team will begin its spring schedule on Sunday at Southern Utah. During the fall, the Gents were led by freshman Greg Berthelot, who averaged 73 per round.  


This weekend’s event at Southern Utah will feature 18 teams, which includes Summit League rivals Oral Roberts and UMKC. The Golden Eagles and Kangaroos were picked to finish in a first place tie in conference’s preseason poll released on Thursday.


Southern Utah (64 points), which won its tournament last year, was picked third in the poll with one first place vote. Western Illinois (61 points) also received first place votes (2), but was picked fourth by the league coaches.


Conference newcomers South Dakota State (47 points) and North Dakota State (40 points) were picked fourth and fifth. IUPUI (37 points), IPFW (29 points) and Oakland (27 points) were chosen seventh, eighth and ninth, while the Gents (9 points) were picked 10th.


Also leading Centenary will be sophomores Nick Faitz and Tyler Williams, who averaged a 78.3 and 78.5 respectively during the fall.   


After this weekend, Centenary’s next action will be Feb. 23-25 at the Jackson State Spring Tournament.
