Ladies Golf Picked Fifth in Preseason Poll

SHREVEPORT – Like their male counterparts, the Centenary women’s s golf team get its spring season started over the weekend. The Ladies open their schedule on Sunday at Koasati Pines Collegiate Classic, hosted by McNeese State.


Centenary this spring will be led by former second team all-conference honorees, sophomore Jessica Garza and senior Chole Mims, who both led the team during the fall. Garza’s average score was 78.3, while Mims followed with a 79.8 and both shot team-low scores during the fall campaign.


A pair of sophomores also had a good fall, Leigh Newton and Tracy Williams each shot a 83.3.


Despite the good fall season, the Ladies (55 points) were still picked fifth in The Summit League preseason coach’s poll, while Oral Roberts (81 points) was the top point’s getter and received nine first place votes.


The top half of the poll was Oakland (66 points) in second, IUPUI (57 points) and South Dakota State (57 points) tied for third. IPFW and North Dakota State (37 points) were picked sixth, while Western Illinois (28 points) was chosen eighth, UMKC (21 points) ninth and Southern Utah (11 points) rounds out the poll at 10th.


After the Ladies complete their tournament in Lake Charles, they will host the Centenary College Ladies Invitational on Feb. 23-24.
