Ladies Continue Improvement against Missouri
Saturday, February 9, 2008

COLUMBIA, Mo.—The Centenary gymnastics team continues to put up season-best scores meet after meet, but that does not always result in wins as the competition continues to get tougher and tougher as well. The Ladies lost to the 14th ranked Missouri Tigers on Friday 195.800 to 192.325.

The Ladies notched team scores above 48.000 on the bars, beam, and floor against the Tigers. However, a score of 47.350 on the vault left a little to be desired on the apparatus for Coach Bill Hardy’s team. Courtney Hawkins’ 9.700 on the event was a team-best and placed her fourth on the event overall.

Centenary turned in one of its best performances of the year on the beam, an event the Ladies have struggled on of late. Laura Loy’s fourth place performance scored a 9.725 to lead the way while Julia Cornelius (9.700), Meredith Smith (9.675), and Alyssa Zawieja (9.650) all gave excellent efforts.

Mandy Bennett put up Centenary’s top score on the bars with a 9.750 and Marisa Schneider placed fifth on the floor with a score of 9.800. Schneider also took fourth in the all-around with a combined total of 38.025.

The Ladies will return to action on Sunday with a meet at Southeast Missouri beginning at 2 p.m.
