Western Illinois Hosts Gents in Key Summit League Game
Friday, February 15, 2008

MACOMB, Ill.—The Centenary men’s basketball team travels to face Western Illinois on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Gents and the Leathernecks have been evenly matched over the past couple of seasons and if history dictates the outcome of this game, fans can be assured it will be a competitive one.

Centenary (9-16, 3-10 Summit) is 0-6 on the road in league play this season and has lost six straight games overall as it prepares to face Western Illinois. A trip to Macomb, Ill., could be just what the doctor ordered for the Gents as they are 1-3 all-time at Western Hall, but the biggest margin of defeat suffered there has been just 11 points for the Maroon and White.

Western Illinois (11-14, 6-8 Summit) has lost three consecutive games and is coming off of a tough 76-71 loss at the hands of Summit League leader Oral Roberts on Thursday. The Leathernecks currently sit in fifth place in the conference standings, just a half game ahead of Southern Utah.

The all-time series is tied at 5-5 with the Gents taking the last meeting between the clubs, 95-88, in Shreveport on Jan. 17th. In that game, Tyrone Hamilton scored 21 points to lead four Gents with 17 or more points and Centenary converted on 13 straight free throw attempts over the final two minutes to seal the victory.

The game can be heard on the radio in Shreveport-Bossier on KSCL 91.3 FM and on the internet at www.GoCentenary.com.
