Gents Open Season Victorious

SHREVEPORT – Led by an outstanding pitching performance by sophomore Dakota Robinson, the Centenary baseball team handed Northern Iowa a 6-2 loss on Friday night at Shehee Stadium.

Robinson handcuffed the Panthers, pitching seven innings, allowing two unearned runs and fanning six. Senior Aaron Bronson pitched two innings of relief, as he struck out four and walked just one.

However, it wasn’t all pitching for the Gents (1-0), as the bats came alive on a cold southern night. Senior Cameron Penny had three hits on the evening, while his classmates Alex Maldonado and Teddy Saenz each went 2-for-3. Saenz and junior Steele Lewis also knocked in two RBIs.

The Centenary bats chased NIU starting pitcher Nick Kirk after 4.1 innings, as he allowed five earned runs and walked two. Tim Flattery, who pitched the final 3.2 innings, did a nice job in relief, allowing just one run and striking three.

The Panthers offense (0-1), meanwhile, was led by Brandon Douglas, who had two base hits, while Matt Davis and Brett Douglas each had an RBI.

Centenary and UNI will meet for a twinbill starting tomorrow at noon.
